Caramel Squares

Ingredients

• 1 C sugar
• ½ C Crisco
• 2 egg yolks
• 1 tsp vanilla
• 1½ C flour
• 1 tsp baking powder
• ½ tsp salt
• 1½ C chopped pecans

Directions

Mix shortening and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat with electric mixer. Sift together baking powder, salt, and flour. Add and mix. Add nuts. Pour into 7 x 11 pan. See Meringue recipe below to finish.

Ingredients

• 2 egg whites
• 1 C brown sugar
• ½ tsp vanilla

Directions

Beat egg whites, add sugar and vanilla. Spread on above dough. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
